Street signs are something we depend on in our daily travels. When we use our cell phones to navigate our way to a friends home, a local business, or a family trip, we depend on street signs! We need street signs for reassurance that the way forward, the road beneath our wheels with our last turn is always correct. Without our trusty sign, doubt starts creeping into our heads. We know the directions show this street as Elm Street … only you can’t see the sign. So you go on until you can finally see the next sign. No more doubts. Well, that’s you in a normal easy going, no rush, nonchalant, relaxed mode.
Now your having an emergency where 911 has been called. Remember the missing street sign? The doubt that happens? Now add adrenaline as responders try to find your home. It might have been missed due to tree growth from a neighbors tree. Maybe the onboard GPS signal drops in your area for some reason (it happens). Now the responders have to follow the map book and depend on street signs.
What if your street gets missed in the rush of response? How much time does that cost? Now the ambulance must turn around. More time. Meanwhile your fear, stress, and adrenaline are increasing as seconds become minutes. This is only one of the preventable unknowns to delays that you have no direct control over.
It’s important to your community at large to report these obstructions of the street sign to the local streets division since it may increase response time in emergencies. Every city or town handles this differently, so have patience. 
The other method (if you know the homeowner) is to ask the homeowner about removing the offending limb or branch after you have explained the importance of the action being requested. It’s something I hope would easily be complied to since it relates to all families of the homeowners in the neighborhood.

When planting take care to find the correct long term (years of growth later) placement when planting. Keep trees, bushes and hedges trimmed. Remember if you cannot see your street sign or house numbers at night … neither can 911 responders.
