Lack of address numbers a problem for many East Tennessee emergency responders

Brenda and Wallace Reid made Hawkins County their new home four years ago.

“It’s nice here where the people are friendly and there aren’t as many people” Brenda said on her front porch Thursday.

They love the scenery, but there’s one problem in living in these rural areas.

“There’s absolutely no lights out here… it’s dark at night,” Brenda added.

Which could be a problem for this retired couple.

“When you get up in age, if you have to call an ambulance or firetruck to come and find you. They look at our mailboxes for numbers. Having something lit up with help find you.”
